Roundtable discussion - The Eastward Shift: Asia as the New Centre of Gravity in International Arbitration
Content: Against the backdrop of increasingly volatile global trade shaped by geopolitical and economic dynamics, international dispute resolution is also entering a period of significant transformation, with Asia increasingly emerging as a key force shaping its future. This session examines the growing “eastward shift” in international arbitration, drawing on practical insights from leading arbitral institutions in the region. It seeks to address a central question: Has Asia become the “new destination” for international arbitration, and how will this shift impact users, arbitral institutions, and the broader community of legal practitioners and arbitrators? As part of VAW 2026, the discussion also highlights the increasingly prominent role of emerging jurisdictions, including Vietnam, within the evolving regional and global arbitration landscape. The session is expected to provide an open forum for experts to exchange views on opportunities, competitive challenges, and the standards necessary to sustain and further advance the development of arbitration in Asia.
